Google Doodle Celebrates Curling as Winter Olympics 2026 Begins

ISLAMABAD, Feb 04: Google has marked the commencement of the Winter Olympics 2026 by featuring an interactive Doodle celebrating curling. The competition in this discipline has already begun in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The Doodle emphasizes winter sports, with a particular focus on curling, often referred to as “chess on ice.” It is a team sport where players slide granite stones across the ice towards a target known as the house.

Curling competitions at the Milano Cortina 2026 started on Tuesday with the Mixed Doubles preliminary round in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The interactive Doodle allows users to explore winter sports through a mini-game and gain insights into the host cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Curling, which originated in 16th-century Scotland, became a permanent fixture of the Winter Olympics in 1998.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will formally open on Friday, February 6, and continue until February 22, with events across northern Italy, including Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
