UNITED NATIONS, Feb 04: The UN Security Council members on Tuesday vigorously condemned the recent deadly terrorist attacks in multiple locations across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, urging for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
In a press statement from UN Headquarters in New York, the 15-member Council declared, “This reprehensible act of terrorism resulted in the grievous loss of 48 Pakistani nationals, including 31 civilians,” among them five women and three children.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for these attacks, described as “heinous and cowardly.”
The Council’s statement on the rising terrorist threat in Pakistan was issued by UK’s Charge D’affaires, James Kariuki, the presiding Council president.
The members extended their deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims’ families, the Government, and the people of Pakistan, wishing a speedy recovery for those injured. They reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms poses one of the most severe threats to international peace and security.
The members emphasized the necessity of holding those responsible accountable, urging all States to collaborate with Pakistan, as per obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motivation, location, or perpetrator. They confirmed the need for all States to combat such threats by every means, in line with the United Nations Charter and international law, including human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law.
