ISLAMABAD, Feb 03: Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, and President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Hun Sen, engaged in a high-level bilateral meeting. Leading a prominent parliamentary delegation to Cambodia, Gilani sought to bolster parliamentary diplomacy and enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.
During their discussion, both leaders focused on mutual interests, particularly emphasizing the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral ties. They explored possibilities to expand political, economic, and people-to-people contacts.
The meeting also touched on finding new avenues in trade, investment, and institutional cooperation, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening relations for mutual benefit. They agreed to maintain close dialogue and cooperation.
The Cambodian side hosted an official dinner in honor of the Chairman Senate of Pakistan, showcasing the warm and amicable relations shared by the two countries.
Gilani’s visit underscores Pakistan’s dedication to fortifying its long-standing friendly relations with Cambodia, promoting parliamentary diplomacy, and probing new areas of bilateral cooperation.
Upon arrival in Phnom Penh with his delegation, Gilani was warmly received at Techo International Airport by Second Vice President of the Cambodian Senate Dr Thun Vathana and other notable officials, alongside Pakistan’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Zahiruddin Babar Thethem.
As part of his official activities, Gilani paid homage to Cambodia’s national heroes at the Independence Monument, and at the Royal Memorial Statue of the late King Father Preah Borom Ratanak Kaoudh, marking respect for Cambodia’s heritage and history.
Later, at the Solidarity Palace of the Cambodian Senate, Gilani was formally welcomed by Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen with an official reception at Polyarthipadi Hall. The ceremony included a review of the Guard of Honour and exchanges of greetings and introductions between delegation members.
This visit is viewed as a pivotal move towards enhancing parliamentary, political, and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Cambodia, unlocking new opportunities for sustained bilateral cooperation.
