World Bank President Commends KP’s Heritage Conservation at Julian Buddhist Monastery

KHANPUR, Feb 01: World Bank President Ajay Banga visited the historic Julian Buddhist Monastery on Sunday and praised the efforts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Accompanying him on the visit were Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Member of the National Assembly Faisal Amin Gandapur, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisor on Finance Muzammil Aslam.

During the visit, President Banga expressed satisfaction with the well-maintained archaeological site and lauded the provincial government’s efforts, particularly through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) project. He highlighted the potential of tourism to create jobs and contribute significantly to sustainable economic growth in Pakistan.

Dr. Abdul Samad, Director General Archaeology and Museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, briefed the delegation about the historical significance of the Julian Buddhist Monastery, ongoing conservation efforts, and future plans to enhance tourist facilities.

The delegation applauded the preservation measures and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in safeguarding Pakistan’s cultural heritage and boosting tourism.
