ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to fostering interfaith harmony both nationally and internationally, contributing to global peace and understanding.
In his message for World Interfaith Harmony Week, observed from February 1 to 7, 2026, President Zardari extended warm greetings to Pakistanis and the global community. He emphasized the shared values of peace, compassion, mutual respect, and coexistence central to all faiths.
“Pakistan is enriched by religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity. Our Constitution guarantees religious freedom and equal rights, reflecting Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of tolerance, unity, and harmony,” stated President Zardari. He highlighted World Interfaith Harmony Week as an opportunity to recommit to these ideals.
According to the President, interfaith understanding impacts the daily lives of citizens, enabling children to attend school safely, securing places of worship, and fostering trust in communities. “Conversely, intolerance disrupts social life, strains economies, and undermines family safety. Promoting respect and dialogue among faiths is vital for social stability and wellbeing,” he remarked.
In an era of conflict and division, interfaith communication is crucial. Genuine engagement, education, and open dialogue help counter prejudice and misunderstandings. Beyond moral importance, interfaith harmony is essential for social cohesion, sustainable peace, and shared progress,” he added.
President Zardari emphasized that Islam, like all great religions, supports justice, peace, and respect for human dignity. The values of compassion, kindness, and tolerance resonate across all religious traditions, highlighting our shared humanity. He called on fostering understanding and rejecting extremism to build trust and solidarity within societies.
President Zardari praised religious leaders, scholars, educators, civil society organizations, and youth efforts in promoting dialogue and harmony. “Their contribution is essential in nurturing a culture of respect and countering hatred, guiding future generations to view diversity as a strength,” he continued.
He concluded with a call to renew resolve in upholding interfaith harmony, protecting minority rights, and working for a peaceful and inclusive world. “May this week inspire thoughtful action, informed dialogue, and mutual respect,” he added.
