Pakistan’s Dedication to Interfaith Harmony Highlighted by President Zardari

ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to fostering interfaith harmony both nationally and globally, contributing positively to peace and mutual understanding on the world stage.

In a statement marking World Interfaith Harmony Week, which is observed from February 1 to 7, 2026, President Zardari conveyed warm greetings to the people of Pakistan and the international community. He highlighted the shared values of peace, compassion, mutual respect, and coexistence that underpin all faiths.

President Zardari emphasized, “Pakistan is enriched by its religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity. Our Constitution guarantees religious freedom and equal rights for every citizen, reflecting the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who championed tolerance and unity as foundational principles of our nation. World Interfaith Harmony Week serves as a vital occasion to reaffirm our dedication to these ideals.”

He noted that interfaith understanding directly impacts everyday life, allowing for safe schooling, secure worship, and dignified livelihoods. “Intolerance, on the other hand, disrupts social life, harms economies, and undermines family security,” he remarked.

Addressing the current global climate marked by conflict and division, President Zardari stressed the importance of genuine engagement, education, and dialogue among different religions. He pointed out that interfaith harmony goes beyond moral values, being crucial for social cohesion, sustainable peace, and shared progress.

The President stated, “Islam, like other major faiths, advocates for justice, peaceful cooperation, and respect for human dignity. Compassion, kindness, and tolerance resonate across religious traditions, emphasizing our common humanity over our differences. By promoting understanding and rejecting all forms of extremism, we can build trust and solidarity within societies.”

He lauded the efforts of religious leaders, scholars, educators, and civil society in promoting dialogue and harmony, noting their essential role in fostering a culture of respect and guiding future generations to view diversity as a strength.

“Let us reaffirm our commitment to interfaith harmony, protect minority rights, and work collectively for a peaceful, inclusive world,” he concluded, expressing hope that the week would inspire thoughtful action and mutual respect.
