Hanif Abbasi Announces Major Reforms and Revenue Growth in Pakistan Railways at Havelian

HAVELIAN, Jan 31: Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has outlined significant reforms and development strategies in Pakistan Railways, emphasizing that enhanced services, infrastructure advancements, and digitalization have greatly increased public trust and revenue.

During a media briefing at Havelian Railway Station following the inauguration of the refurbished Hazara Express train track, the minister noted that his visit had attracted considerable public attention, reflecting widespread interest in railway development. He described Havelian Railway Station as a historic site and highlighted his connection to the Hazara region.

Abbasi announced that Pakistan Railways had reached several critical objectives, including the assignment of six train rakes to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to facilitate travel between Peshawar and Karachi. He mentioned that the Hazara Express had been upgraded with new and refurbished coaches, enhancing passenger comfort.

The minister highlighted that 60 railway stations nationwide have been digitized, boosting efficiency and transparency. He also discussed ongoing projects such as the Rs 600 billion Karachi–Rohri railway track, and proposed a Rohri–Nokundi line to connect the resource-rich Chagai region, enhancing regional ties with Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

On financial performance, Abbasi stated that earnings from passenger and freight services set records in December, with revenues reaching Rs 10 billion that month. Pakistan Railways aims to earn Rs 1 trillion through continued reforms, infrastructure enhancement, and service improvement.

Abbasi reaffirmed the critical role of rail connectivity in economic growth and emphasized that ongoing efforts are geared towards transforming Pakistan Railways into a modern, efficient, and public-friendly organization.
