The Housing Department has presented the details of Lahore’s Master Plan 2050 in the Punjab Assembly. In response to a query from Member of Assembly Ahmar Rasheed Bhatti, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Housing Department highlighted the key aspects of the new master plan, which emphasizes organized and sustainable development for Lahore.
The Parliamentary Secretary elaborated that the Master Plan 2050 will include comprehensive zoning for residential, commercial, and industrial areas, with a focus on green belts, parks, and environmental protection. Plans for new roads and urban corridors aim to alleviate traffic congestion, while measures to prevent illegal construction are also key components.
The expansion of the housing sector is planned to accommodate population growth. Enhancements to modern infrastructure, drainage, and sewage systems will be prioritized, ensuring the preservation of Lahore’s historical identity. A robust monitoring system will oversee the implementation of the plan, safeguarding green, brown, and industrial zones, as well as environmental standards.
Additionally, the Parliamentary Secretary mentioned that a master plan prepared four years ago is currently under review by the Supreme Court.
