LAHORE, Feb 05: The Punjab government has made comprehensive arrangements for the safe celebration of Basant in Lahore from February 6 to 8. Section 144 will be enforced to avoid provocation, maintain religious harmony, and ensure public order.
A spokesperson from the Punjab Home Department stated that specific restrictions have been set to uphold peace and respect religious sentiments. Kites with images or symbols of holy books, religious sites, personalities, political affiliations, or national flags are completely banned.
Under Section 144, the manufacture, sale, purchase, and use of kites bearing religious or political inscriptions or images are strictly prohibited. Nonetheless, the use of plain or multi-colored kites without images is permitted during Basant in Lahore.
The government has allowed Basant solely as a recreational festival, cautioning against any legal violations. Measures have been implemented to maintain public order and protect religious harmony during the celebrations.
As per the Punjab Kite Flying Act 2025, the use of metallic wire and nylon string is entirely banned, and the use of safety rods on motorcycles has been mandated during Basant in Lahore.
The Home Department has issued detailed security guidelines, instructing district administration and police to strictly enforce all established rules. Vehicles entering and exiting the city will undergo stringent checks, allowing only legally approved kite-flying materials, while confiscating prohibited items immediately.
Aerial firing and weapon displays are strictly banned, with severe legal consequences for violators.
Moreover, Rescue 1122 is on full alert for any potential emergencies, and all hospitals have been directed to ensure the availability of specialists, medical staff, and essential medicines during Basant, according to the spokesperson.
