ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support cancer patients and strengthen efforts to alleviate the disease’s impact on World Cancer Day.
In his message, the Prime Minister expressed solidarity with those affected by cancer and emphasized that combating the disease is a shared national responsibility that demands compassion, courage, and collective action.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that recent policy reforms and expanded partnerships have made the national response to cancer more effective and coordinated. He noted the significant progress achieved in providing life-saving treatment to underprivileged cancer patients through public-private cooperation, reducing financial and geographical barriers to care.
He also mentioned the active development of a comprehensive national cancer prevention strategy to optimize the country’s capacity to tackle the disease sustainably.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promote integrated measures at national and provincial levels, focusing on assisting vulnerable populations.
Investment in healthcare infrastructure, research, and evidence-based decision-making remains central to the government’s strategy, as stated by PM Sharif.
He emphasized that prevention is key in mitigating cancer’s impact and underlined the importance of healthy lifestyles and public awareness. He called for active participation from communities, civil society, the private sector, and the media.
On World Cancer Day, the Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to unite in the mission to protect public health. Through coordinated efforts and collaboration, effective treatment, timely diagnosis, and compassionate care for cancer patients can be ensured.
PM Sharif concluded by expressing confidence that sincere cooperation and collective efforts would help build a healthier and stronger Pakistan for future generations.
