China Interested in Investing in Pakistan’s Mineral Sector: Dr. Butt

ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: Dr. Hassan Daud Butt, Senior Advisor to Energy China and former CPEC Project Director, has expressed China’s strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s mineral sector. The collaboration aims to enhance capacity building and promote advanced technologies, further strengthening the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan.
Dr. Butt stated on Wednesday that Pakistan is abundant in mineral resources, and with Chinese cooperation, these resources can be efficiently and sustainably utilized. He highlighted China’s interest in investment as well as in human resource training, development of local skills, and the transfer of modern mining technology as vital components of their cooperative efforts.
He emphasized that advanced technology would enhance productivity in the mineral sector, reduce operational costs, and improve Pakistan’s access to global markets. Dr. Butt stressed the importance of sustainable development and adherence to international standards, ensuring responsible mining practices with a focus on environmental protection and the welfare of local communities.
Dr. Butt noted that aligning planning and implementation with modern international standards would not only drive economic growth but also minimize the environmental impact of mining projects.
He mentioned that following their cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors through the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the mineral sector is emerging as a significant area for new cooperation. Dr. Butt expressed optimism that joint Pakistan–China projects would create employment opportunities, boost exports, and deliver long-term economic benefits.
He reaffirmed the commitment to expand Pakistan–China cooperation in the future, based on mutual trust, shared interests, and sustainable development principles, ensuring equal benefit for both nations.
