ISLAMABAD, Feb 3: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support cancer patients and enhance collective efforts to alleviate the disease’s impact on World Cancer Day.
In his message, the prime minister stated that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the global community, expressing unity with those affected by cancer and renewing its determination to combat the disease. He emphasized that the fight against cancer extends beyond a medical challenge, representing a shared national responsibility that necessitates compassion, courage, and collective action.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the government’s policy reforms and expanded partnerships over the past year, which have made the national cancer response more effective, coordinated, and robust.
Cooperation between the public and private sectors has led to significant progress in providing life-saving treatments to underprivileged cancer patients, while also reducing financial and geographical barriers to care.
The prime minister mentioned the active development of a comprehensive national cancer prevention strategy, aimed at using the nation’s collective capacity efficiently and sustainably.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to advance integrated measures at national and provincial levels, focusing on supporting vulnerable and marginalized populations.
Investment in healthcare infrastructure, research, and evidence-based decision-making remains central to the government’s strategy, he said.
The emphasis was placed on prevention as a key factor in reducing cancer’s devastating impact, underscoring the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles and public awareness. The prime minister highlighted the indispensable role of communities, civil society, the private sector, and the media in this effort.
On World Cancer Day, the prime minister called upon stakeholders at individual, social, and public levels to unite for the mission of protecting human health against the disease.
He expressed confidence that through coordinated efforts and close collaboration between the government and the private sector, timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and compassionate care for cancer patients can be ensured.
PM Sharif concluded by expressing confidence that sincere cooperation and collective efforts would help secure a healthier and stronger Pakistan for future generations.
