Pakistan Railways Allocates Over Rs31 Billion for Track Upgrades

ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Pakistan Railways is set to invest over Rs31 billion in six significant development projects dedicated to upgrading and rehabilitating the nation’s railway network. This initiative is expected to elevate safety standards, boost operational efficiency, and enhance services for both passengers and freight operators across the country.

According to a document obtained by Wealth Pakistan, these projects fall under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP). In the Sukkur Division, the track safety project from Rohri to Khanpur is projected to cost Rs4.87 billion, while the Tando Adam to Rohri section will require an estimated Rs4.83 billion.

Similarly, essential track safety work on the Keamari to Hyderabad section in the Karachi Division is estimated at Rs5.4 billion. The upgrades in the Multan and Lahore divisions, covering the Khanewal to Shahdara section via Shorkot, Faisalabad, and Qila Sheikhupura, will cost Rs6.3 billion. Furthermore, work on the Sher Shah to Kundian section in the Multan Division is projected to cost Rs4.9 billion, with the Rohri to Sibi section in the Sukkur Division needing Rs5.49 billion.

These projects aim to make travel safer and more convenient while cutting down travel time between major railway stations significantly. Once completed, the upgrades are expected to save 55 minutes on the Tando Adam to Rohri section, 27 minutes on Rohri to Khanpur, 25 minutes on the Keamari–Hyderabad section, 40 minutes on the Khanewal–Shorkot–Faisalabad–Qila Sheikhupura–Shahdara section, 56 minutes on the Rohri–Sibi section, and 106 minutes on the Sher Shah–Kundian section.
