The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar, has mandated the completion of the Islamabad Model Jail project to ensure that the transfer of prisoners from Central Jail Adiala to the new facility begins by July 1, 2026.
At a Justice Committee meeting, Chief Justice Dogar emphasized the need for timely completion of the jail and the appointment of staff and management. He urged district judiciary judges to expedite case resolutions to promptly address public grievances. The district administration and police were instructed to enhance security measures at court and judges’ residences, including installing emergency exits and alarm systems in the judicial complex.
The Justice Committee meeting, headed by the Chief Justice, detailed discussions on the construction progress of the Model Jail Islamabad. According to the Chief Commissioner’s Office, the project is near completion, with a slated finish date of June 30.
Chief Justice Dogar recommended that the Interior Secretary engage with the Finance Secretary to resolve any lingering construction issues. The session also covered the National Prison Reform Action Plan and noted a rising crime rate in Islamabad, including theft, robbery, and rape. It also evaluated the prosecution department’s performance and the status of case submissions.
To bolster crime prevention, Chief Justice Dogar stressed obtaining forensic lab reports in rape cases to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice. He called for comprehensive training of investigation officers to gather all potential incriminating evidence.
The meeting further assessed law and order, alongside updates on the Safe City surveillance system. It was reported that approximately 35% of sensitive Islamabad areas, including red zones and highways, are under CCTV surveillance. Between these efforts, 19,692 people and 15,779 vehicles were checked, leading to the recovery of 17 stolen vehicles and the arrest of 15 declared criminals.
The assembly was attended by high-ranking officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, the IG Police, the Advocate General of Islamabad, and various judges and federal agencies’ directors.
