PIA Set to Reach New Heights Under Arif Habib Consortium: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is poised to reach new heights under the leadership of the Arif Habib Consortium. The airline is expected to significantly improve its performance, punctuality, cabin service, and professional standards.
Speaking at the ceremony for the signing of transaction documents between the government and the Arif Habib Consortium concerning PIA’s privatization, the Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the nation.
He emphasized that Arif Habib and his team are esteemed business ambassadors of Pakistan, contributing significantly to the country’s progress.
Sharif outlined that the top priority for PIA’s new management would be to ensure passenger comfort and safety.
Reflecting on the past, he recalled the 1960s when PIA was at its peak and recognized globally.
The Prime Minister praised the federal ministers, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in the national interest, and Advisor for Privatization Muhammad Ali for the successful privatization of PIA.
He noted that the privatization process was broadcast live and conducted transparently, with the final bid being closed at Rs 180 billion. From this amount, the consortium will allocate Rs 135 billion towards enhancing PIA, while the government will receive Rs 55 billion.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that with determination and innovation, the new owners will restore PIA’s former glory.
The nation anticipates enhanced travel services and increased recognition for Pakistan, he added.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and federal ministers attended the ceremony.
Advisor for Privatization Muhammad Ali highlighted the key features of PIA’s privatization, asserting that the country’s citizens stand to benefit from improved airline services.
